The Upper Manhattan Mental Health Center, Inc. (UMMHC) is a 501 (C) (3),
not for profit , community based organization that was formed in 1986.
UHHMC promotes and develops a healthy minded community, targeting primarily
the poor and underserved who live in a high risk inner city environment.
It is the philosophy of the Agency that "...taking care of one's mind is
as important as taking care of one's body".
Through effective community based supportive programs, the Upper Manhattan
Mental Health Center helps people with emotional, psychiatric and substance
abuse illnesses to recover and become stable and productive citizens of the
community.
UMMHC offers behavioral health care services to a community with over 300,000
residents living within the boundaries from 125th street south to 180th street
north, from Lenox Avenue east to the Hudson River.
UMMHC is a major employer in Northern Manhattan with a staff of over 160.
The staff of Upper Manhattan Mental Health Center are highly trained health
care professionals -- psychiatrists, nurse, psychologists, social workers,
case managers, vocational rehabilitation counselors, addiction counselors
etc. -- who are competent, culturally sensitive and bilingual.
UMMHC maintains an effective quality assurance program which ensures that care
and services are delivered to the community in an appropriate manner.
UMMHC has a friendly customer service delivery system. The most recent
patient satisfaction survey revealed that the majority of patients rated the
Agency's services excellent overall.
UMMHC provides services to individuals regardless of whether they can pay or
not.
UMMHC's primary source of funding is through the New York City, Department of
Mental Health, Mental Retardation & Alcoholism Services.
UMMHC is licensed by the State of New York, Office of Mental Health,
Office of Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Services and the Department of
Health.
Upper Manhattan Mental Health Center currently operates a full spectrum
of effective outpatient and day treatment services for children, adolescents,
adults and senior citizens.
